Material printing and printed electronics research activities

Department of Graphic Arts and Photophysics, has been focused for several years on the field of material printing and depositions. Many scientific or industrial projects deal with the problematics of material printing of simpler functional layers (antistatic, conductive, semi-conductive, luminescent, etc.), or many complex multi-layer structures containing, for example, sensors, electroluminescent (LEC, OLED) and electrochromic displays, solar cells and secondary (lithium batteries) sources of power where the conductive polymer were used. The strong part of its research is focused to sensory system, where selected technologies were licenced.

Research into optical materials and thin films

Research into chalcogenide glasses and thin films, where attention is paid to the study of some systems based on tellurium (Ge-Sb-Te, Ga-Ge-Te), selenium (Ge-Sb-Se), but others (Ga-La-S, etc.). Research into amorphous chalcogenides greatly benefits from a wide cooperation with foreign institutions (Université de Rennes 1, Université de Lille, University of Debrecen, etc.). A new stimulus for the development of scientific and research activities in this area was the acquisition of a spectroscopic ellipsometer operating in the infrared region of the spectrum.

Research into UV curable inks and varnishes

Research into UV curable inks and varnishes, where the study is primarily focused on monitoring the quantity of migrating substances from systems with a lower number of components (two- to three-component systems). The effect is studied of different conditions on the number of migrant substances (degree of conversion of the binder, extraction time, radiation dose, etc.). Attention in this area is also paid to the study of additives for cationic curing systems. By observing the change in viscosity, we tested the capability of selected compounds to inhibit premature polymerization and also we examine the effect of potent inhibitors on the long-term functionality of reactive systems.

Study Programmes of Faculty of Chemical Technology of University of Pardubice

Department of Graphic Arts and Photophysics is part of Faculty of Chemical technology which ensure wide range of study programmes. 

Bachelor’s degree study programmes are considered to be a basic building block of our Faculty. The study is organized in accordance with the Bologna Declaration and follows modern trends in university education in the world. The form of the study is structured. The Bachelor’s degree programmes are followed by the Master’s study programmes and two-year branches of studies. For the best students is offered a doctoral study programmes with doctoral degree PhD. These study programmes are conducted also in English language, which enables many of foreign students to study.

Department of Graphic Arts and Photophysics was established at the then College of Chemical Technology in 1984 and Graphic Arts were one of specializations of the Chemistry and Technology of Wood, Fibrous Materials and Composites, a four-year university degree study. In 1992, in connection with the reversion to a five-year study and change in focus on the separate field of Graphic Arts, there was a substantial change in the study programme of the discipline. In 1994, a three-year Bachelor's degree study of Graphic Arts was opened up. Nowadays, it is possible to study the Bachelor's degree programme as well as the Master's programme of Graphic Arts at the Department. Both programs were in 2019 newly re-accredited for the next 8 years. For the best students we offer a doctoral study programmes.

The research work of the Department is focused on research of materials in various fields which include both basic and applied research.

The Department is actively involved in international cooperation with similar institutions abroad, both in research as well as exchange programs of students and academic staff.
